No More Corporate Woes – Going Self-Employed

Nobody predicted the recession, but here it is, and we’re well involved in an economic slowdown. You may even be recently unemployed. You can stop reading the papers, but you can’t get away from the reality that the United Kingdom is in a deep recession and it’s not going away anytime soon.

Nonetheless, there are always means to help get yourself get a job. The traditional means of looking for a job are not so good when you have 100 other individuals trying for the very same job. Reading the paper, browsing the local dole bureau, etc – you’re just part of the large herd looking for a job in this unimaginative way.

You should search for a job in ways your competitors are fewer in numbers. These days a lot of companies display job vacancies on their website, so use a search engine and type in keywords to target local companies. Use a variety of keywords between locale only e.g. jobs Staffordshire UK, and locale and profession e.g. cleaning jobs Tamworth.

One more idea is to go it alone – become self-employed. One thing we’ve found out over the last year is that big corporates can go bust overnight. Self-employment puts destiny in your own hands, which is something no employee of a firm can ever say they have. The main thing is you choose the kind of career you enjoy since you will need to motivate yourself everyday.
